ITINERARY:

 

Starting Point: Alcaraván Airport or Hotel in Yopal.

Finishing Point: Alcaraván Airport or Hotel in Yopal.

Start time – day 1: 7:00.

End time – day 4: 17:00.

 

Day 1:

We will meet at the airport or place in Yopal previously agreed.
Departure by 4×4 van to the Natural Reserve El Encanto de Guanapalo.
You will be able to tell the driver if you need to stop at the ATM or make any kind of purchase before departure.

 

Arrival at the Reserve is scheduled around 9:30 a.m., where you will immediately begin wildlife viewing and contemplation of the llanero landscape from the van, crossing extensive plains and observing many birds such as herons and savannah owls, as well as herds of capybaras, deers and babillas.
You will arrive around 11:00 a.m. at one of the reserves called Matepalma, where you will be welcomed with a cold drink. You will have lunch around noon with a beautiful view.

 

 

At 2:30 p.m., you will begin the journey on horseback, crossing extensive savannahs, marshes and forests, spotting wildlife and enjoying the wonderful sunset that the plains offer.
You will arrive at Hato Montana around 7:00 p.m., where you will settle in, have dinner and rest.

 

 

Day 2.

Wake up around 5:30 a.m.; you will have an early light breakfast and ride on horseback into the more than 12,000 hectares that make up this nature reserve, exploring gallery forests, looking for wild animals and learning about traditional cattle ranching.
Around midday, the Altamira nature reserve will be waiting for you to welcome you with a typical lunch.
In the afternoon you will ride through a ravine with a wide diversity of birds, until you reach a heron nesting place (garcero), and then return to Altamira at sunset to rest.

 

Day 3:

Wake up at 5:30 a.m., have breakfast and depart on horseback to the Hato Matepalma on an old cattle route through the old El Encanto reserve.
You will arrive around noon at El Boral herd to enjoy lunch and an afternoon of rest and wildlife watching in front of its beautiful gorge frequented by capybaras.

 

 

Day 4:

A new morning, a new opportunity for bird watching and search for those animals that take advantage of the freshness of the early hours of the day.
Finally we will have lunch around noon to leave at 14:00 to Yopal by van.

 

TYPE OF ACCOMMODATION:

 

Accommodation will be daily in a different nature reserve (Montana, Altamira and Matepalma).
Rooms mostly in double accommodation (twin type), private bathroom and solar energy.
(No hot water or air conditioning).

 

Note: It is recommended to carry little luggage to make the horseback ride comfortable. If you require luggage transportation between the natural reserves, it must be requested in advance.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

    • Wear comfortable, cool, quick-drying clothing, ideally in earth tones that allow for greater camouflage in the natural landscape.
      Pants and long sleeve shirts.
      Cap or hat (you can find an offer of hats in our allied store in Yopal “Sobreros Florentino”).
    • Rubber or waterproof boots (depending on size and availability they can be supplied by us), and comfortable and safe closed shoes.
    • Raincoat and dry bags for equipment.
    • Sun block and insect repellent.
    • Water bottle, thermos or camelback.
    • Sunglasses.
    • Basic personal hygiene items.
    • Flashlight, spare batteries, photography equipment, binoculars.
    • A medium sized assault backpack for use during activities.
    • Traveler’s documents: passport, identity card, civil registry or citizenship card (depending on age and origin), military passbook and medical insurance card.
