ITINERARY:
Starting point: Alcaraván Airport or Hotel in Yopal.
Ending point: Hotel in Yopal or Alcaraván Airport.
Start time – day 1: 10:30 am.
End time – day 7: 14:00 pm.
Day 1:
We will meet you at the airport or a previously arranged place in Yopal and take you to the Camoruco Hotel in Yopal.
You will enjoy a delicious lunch at a renowned restaurant in the city.
In the afternoon we will visit one of the natural reserves near the foothills of the Cravo Sur River.
Birdwatching tour in Casanare: This will be a small appetizer of the expedition, where you will be able to observe species such as the wire-tailed jumper ( Pipra filicauda – Wire-tailed Manakin), white-faced macaws (Ara severus – Chesnut – fronted Macaw), among other species characteristic of this reserve.
In the evening we will enjoy the gastrobar area of Yopal.
Day 2:
Around 5:00 we will be picked up by the transport that will take us above to record the species in the second best hotspot of Casanare.
Probable species: Cyanerpes cyaneus (Red-legged Honeycreeper), Lophornis stictolophus (Spangled Coquette), Hemithraupis guira (Guira Tanager), Chrysolampia mosquitus (Ruby-topaz Hummingbird), Spizaetus melanoleucus (Black and White Hawk Eagle), Arremon taciturnus (Pectoral Sparrow).
We will have breakfast in the field during the sighting session.
Around 11:00 a.m. we will head to the municipality of San Luis de Palenque (approximately 2 hours) to enjoy lunch at La Patrona restaurant.
Afterwards, the route will continue for four or five hours until we reach the natural reserves of Altagracia, where we will be welcomed at the Buenaventura Ecolodge with a delicious dinner.
Day 3:
Wake up around 5:30 a.m., coffee and a snack will be available.
You will walk through different sectors of the Buenaventura Reserve during the morning.
Breakfast will be available at the ecolodge or in the field.
Lunch at the Ecolodge.
In the afternoon you will visit other sectors of the reserve and enjoy the sunset at the side of the charming Altagracia Lagoon.
Day 4.
The whole day will be dedicated to visiting the nature reserve El Lagunazo: it is home to the largest population of Orinoco goose, as well as hundreds of birds and incredible landscapes of morichales.
Lunch at the Buenaventura ecolodge.
In the afternoon you will return again by van to El Lagunazo Natural Reserve, where you will have one of the best views of the Altagracia Lagoon, and enjoy a canoe ride observing the striking concentrations of birds of various species.
There you will have a sunset toast in one of the best settings for photographing the sunset.
You will return to the lodge around 7:00 p.m. for dinner and rest.
Day 5:
A new morning, a new opportunity for bird watching and search for those animals that take advantage of the freshness of the early hours of the day.
Breakfast is scheduled around 7:00 a.m., and then we will go to a new wetland called Laguna de Valledupar, where there is a high probability of observing giant otters.
Lunch will be at the San Cristóbal Natural Reserve.
In the afternoon, you will walk along an extensive forest trail and through the morichal forests of this reserve.
Finally, you will return to the lodge around 7:00 p.m. for dinner in front of a campfire, sharing experiences with the Salazar family, hosts of the Buenaventura Ecolodge.
Day 6:
Around 5:30 a.m., coffee will be available and you will be able to walk the trails of the Ecolodge for bird watching.
Afterwards, you will have breakfast and return to Yopal.
Lunch at La Patrona, a restaurant and museum located in San Luis de Palenque.
Arrival in Yopal around 2:00 pm.
Afternoon rest at Casa Cumbres, located in the mountain areas of Yopal.
Day 7:
At around 5:30 am at a new sunrise, coffee will be available and you will be able to walk the trails of the foothills of the beautiful environment of Casa Cumbres, which has more than 100 private hectares of wooded areas in the mountains, where you will enjoy long or short walks, or you can rest and watch birds from the rooms or the pool.
Lunch will be waiting for you before heading to Yopal to visit the souvenir store.
Finally, arrival at the airport at the previously arranged time.
